Product Care

This Product Care guide is designed to help you get the best performance and lifespan from your BLAKO gear.

Fishing tackle is made to be used in tough conditions, but proper storage, handling, and care will help prevent avoidable damage.

Soft Lures

Soft lures should be stored carefully to help maintain their shape, action, and finish.

Care Tips

  • Store soft lures in their original packaging where possible.

  • Keep soft lures straight and flat when stored.

  • Avoid leaving soft lures in direct sunlight, hot cars, or high-heat areas.

  • Do not mix different soft plastic materials together unless you are sure they are compatible.

  • Keep soft lures away from chemicals, fuel, oils, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

  • Avoid crushing soft lures under heavy tackle boxes or gear.

TPE / PVC Soft Plastic Notes

Due to the nature of soft plastic materials, minor shape variation may occur during transport or storage. This is normal and does not usually affect performance.

If a lure becomes slightly bent or distorted, it can often be restored by:

  1. Laying it flat in its correct shape; or

  2. Placing it in warm, not boiling, water for 30–60 seconds, then allowing it to cool straight.

Do not use boiling water, open flames, or direct heat.

Jigheads

Jigheads are designed for fishing use, but hooks and lead heads should be cared for properly to reduce corrosion and damage.

Care Tips

  • Rinse jigheads with fresh water after saltwater use.

  • Dry completely before storing.

  • Do not store wet jigheads in sealed tackle boxes.

  • Avoid leaving jigheads loose where hooks can become damaged or bent.

  • Check hooks before use for rust, blunt points, or damage.

  • Replace jigheads if the hook is bent, weakened, heavily rusted, or damaged.

Important Notes

Jigheads can become damaged from snags, rocks, heavy pressure, incorrect rigging, or general fishing use. This type of wear is not considered a product fault.

Hard Lures

Hard lures should be rinsed, dried, and stored correctly to help protect hooks, split rings, finishes, and internal components.

Care Tips

  • Rinse with fresh water after saltwater use.

  • Dry fully before storing.

  • Do not store wet hard lures in sealed boxes.

  • Check hooks, split rings, tow points, and lure bodies regularly.

  • Avoid knocking hard lures against rocks, concrete, boat decks, or other hard surfaces.

  • Store separately where possible to reduce hook rash and finish damage.

Important Notes

Scratches, chips, hook rash, and wear from normal fishing use may occur over time and are not considered product faults.

Fishing Line, Braid & Leader

Fishing line should be stored and handled properly to maintain strength and casting performance.

Care Tips

  • Store braid and leader in a cool, dry place.

  • Keep line away from direct sunlight for long periods.

  • Avoid contact with fuel, oils, sunscreen, insect repellent, and harsh chemicals.

  • Check line regularly for fraying, abrasion, knots, or weak points.

  • Retie knots regularly, especially after catching fish, snagging, or fishing around structure.

  • Replace damaged or worn line before fishing again.

Braid Notes

Braid can fade, soften, or show wear over time through normal use. This is expected with fishing line and does not usually affect performance unless the line is frayed or damaged.

Leader Notes

Leader can become weakened by abrasion, fish teeth, structure, rocks, oysters, and repeated knot tying. Always inspect leader before casting.

Terminal Tackle

Terminal tackle includes hooks, clips, swivels, rings, and other small rigging components.

Care Tips

  • Rinse after saltwater use.

  • Dry before storing.

  • Replace any item showing rust, bending, cracking, or weakness.

  • Do not overload clips, hooks, or rings beyond their intended fishing use.

  • Check knots and connections before each session.

Storage

Correct storage is one of the easiest ways to protect your fishing gear.

General Storage Tips

  • Keep tackle clean and dry.

  • Avoid storing wet gear in sealed containers.

  • Store products away from heat and direct sunlight.

  • Keep soft plastics separated from incompatible materials.

  • Avoid leaving gear in hot cars, boats, or direct sun for extended periods.

  • Use suitable tackle trays, lure wraps, or original packaging where possible.

Normal Wear & Use

Fishing gear is exposed to water, salt, sand, rocks, snags, fish teeth, hooks, pressure, and repeated casting.

The following are generally considered normal wear or use-related damage:

  • Bite marks

  • Snag damage

  • Hook rash

  • Paint chips

  • Rust from wet storage

  • Bent hooks from pressure or snags

  • Line abrasion

  • Soft lure tearing from fish, hooks, or structure

  • Colour or scent variation between batches

  • Minor soft lure shape variation from storage or transport

These issues are not usually considered product faults.
