Blako’s First Drop: A Grub Built for Bream

Blako’s First Drop: A Grub Built for Bream

When it comes to chasing bream, few lures are as proven as the humble grub. Grub lures are hands down one of the best options for bream fishing, and they’ve been catching fish consistently for decades. They’re also one of the best soft plastics to start with if you’re new to lure fishing. Easy to rig, simple to fish, and highly effective — grubs have earned their place in almost every angler’s tackle box.

That’s exactly why we chose to begin here for our first custom lure. At Blako, we didn’t want to overcomplicate things or chase trends. Instead, we went back to the basics and asked ourselves how we could take a simple design and refine it with our own thought process and creative input.

The result is the Blako 60mm Custom Grub, a lure built to do what grubs have always done best, but with subtle improvements that make a real difference on the water. By keeping the concept simple and focusing on the small details, we’ve created a soft plastic that gives anglers confidence, whether they’re just starting out or chasing that next big bream in tough conditions.

Body – Slim and Adjustable

The body of the 60mm Grub was made slimmer than most, giving it a natural, low-profile look in the water. It’s built with 10 defined sections, allowing anglers to trim it down one by one until they find the exact length the fish are feeding on.

This means one lure can be fished at multiple sizes, from the full 60mm down to a much smaller presentation. On tough days when bream are locked onto tiny bait, being able to adjust the profile makes it a very effective soft plastic grubs for bream fishing.

Tail – Subtle but Lively

The tail is where this grub really comes to life. Designed thinner than usual, it flicks and curls with the slightest movement or current. That means even on a slow drift or a dead-stick presentation, it’s still working.

This kind of finesse action is key for estuary fishing. Pressured bream, bass, and perch often ignore lures with big aggressive movement, but they’ll respond to the natural flick of this tail. That’s what makes the Blako Grub a genuine contender for one of the best bream lures in Australia.

Colours Count

The Blako 60mm Custom Grub has been designed in a range of colours that cover almost every estuary fishing situation. We wanted to make sure there was a match for both natural presentations and proven favourites, so anglers can fish with confidence no matter the conditions.

The lineup includes Bloodworm and Motor Oil, two classic colours that have long been go-to options for bream and flathead. Jelly Spec and Jelly Prawn offer a more translucent, bait-like finish that shines in clear water when fish are easily spooked. For a slightly darker, earthy tone we created Grassworm, while Grass Prawn gives a natural shrimp imitation that’s ideal around structure. Rounding out the range are New Oil, a modern twist on the estuary staple, and Pearl Prawn, a versatile lighter colour that works across multiple species.

Why This Lure Matters to Us

The 60mm Custom Grub represents more than just another soft plastic on the market, it’s the first lure we’ve fully designed ourselves. For Blako, that’s a big step.

It’s the result of years of fishing experience, testing in real Australian conditions, and careful thought about what makes a grub lure effective in estuary fishing. At its core, it’s simple, but it’s those small details, like the adjustable body and finesse tail, that make it stand out.

The Blako 60mm Custom Grub is a lure we’re proud of. Designed in Australia, tested on bream and a wide range of estuary species, and ready for anglers who want a soft plastic they can trust trip after trip.

We’re proud to say this is only the beginning.
