VEETAIL: Built to Move Different

The VEETAIL 70mm was designed for finesse fishing situations where a natural presentation matters. Built around a slim baitfish profile with a highly responsive V-tail, it gives anglers a subtle, controlled lure action that works when fish are cautious, pressured, or feeding on smaller estuary prey.

At 70mm, or 2.75 inches, the VEETAIL sits in a highly versatile size range for light-tackle fishing. It is small enough for finesse presentations, but still carries enough profile to attract attention from bream, bass, flathead, estuary perch, trout, trevally and other light-tackle species.

The design takes inspiration from two key parts of the BLAKO range. It carries the clean baitfish shape of our Forktail Minnow 75, while using a higher-response tail action influenced by our Prawn. The result is a soft plastic that tracks cleanly, moves naturally, and responds with very little input from the rod tip.

The streamlined body helps the VEETAIL hold a consistent baitfish shape in the water. It rigs easily on light jigheads and presents cleanly without needing excessive action from the angler. This makes it ideal for slow rolling, light shaking, hopping, gliding, or fishing through pauses when fish are following but not committing.

One of the key features of the VEETAIL is its precision-cut V-tail. This tail is designed to activate with minimal movement, giving the lure a natural flick and pulse even on slow retrieves or subtle rod work. When paused, the lure can glide and settle with a soft, natural movement that helps keep the presentation realistic.

Rather than imitating one exact bait species, the VEETAIL is designed to represent small estuary forage. This makes it a strong option when fish are feeding on small baitfish, prawns, fry, or other light-profile prey moving through rivers, estuaries, lakes, drains and shallow edges.

Each VEETAIL is finished with a distinctive realistic minnow eye, helping reinforce the natural baitfish look of the lure. This small detail gives the lure a more refined presentation, especially in clear water, shallow areas, or pressured systems where fish are closely inspecting the bait before striking.

The VEETAIL works best when matched with light jigheads that allow the lure to move naturally. Hook sizes #1 and #2 are ideal across BLAKO lures in the 50–75mm range, giving the right balance of strength, hook exposure and natural presentation.

Jighead weight should be chosen based on the conditions. Depth, current, wind, rod setup and line all play a part in selecting the right weight. A lighter jighead will allow the VEETAIL to glide and fall more naturally, while a heavier jighead can help maintain control in deeper water or stronger flow.

For slow presentations, the VEETAIL can be worked with small rod-tip shakes, short lifts, slow rolls or long pauses. The V-tail continues to respond with very little input, making it a reliable option when fish are not chasing aggressively.

The VEETAIL 70mm is built for anglers who want a simple, natural and effective finesse baitfish profile. It does not rely on overdone action or bulky design. It is clean, subtle and responsive, giving anglers a lure that can be fished with confidence when a more natural presentation is needed.

As with all BLAKO products, the VEETAIL has been designed with function first. Every part of the lure has a purpose, from the slim baitfish profile to the responsive V-tail and realistic minnow eye.

The VEETAIL 70mm is made for light-tackle anglers who want a refined soft plastic that can cover a wide range of finesse fishing situations.
