The DeepCover Jighead was designed to be our ultimate weedless jighead setup.
We wanted to create a jighead that gave anglers a clean, natural lure presentation while still allowing soft plastics to be fished deeper into structure, weed, timber, rocks, and snaggy ground.
At the core of the DeepCover is its belly-weighted design. This helps create a forward, natural falling action that works especially well with prawn-style soft plastics. Instead of dropping unnaturally or rolling over, the lure can fall with a more lifelike presentation, which is exactly what we wanted from this style of jighead.
We also wanted to make sure smaller finesse soft plastics had a weedless jighead option that actually matched them properly. A lot of weedless setups can feel too bulky or oversized for smaller soft plastics, so the DeepCover was designed to give anglers a cleaner option for finesse presentations.
The DeepCover Jighead is built on BKK EWG hooks, a hook choice that was important to us from the start.
BKK is a brand known for producing high-quality hooks, and that aligns closely with the standards we expect from our own products. For a weedless jighead, the hook matters. It needs to be sharp, strong, reliable, and suited to soft plastic presentations where clean rigging and solid hook penetration are important.
We selected the BKK EWG hook because it gives the DeepCover the right balance of strength, quality, and presentation. It allows soft plastics to sit naturally while keeping the hook point protected, helping reduce snagging when fishing through cover, structure, rocks, weed, and timber.
For us, the DeepCover was not just about making a weedless jighead. It was about building one around quality components that match the level we expect from BLAKO gear.
The main purpose of the DeepCover is simple: fish where standard jigheads struggle.
That means casting tight into trees, working soft plastics through weed, crawling lures over rocks, and fishing close to structure with less chance of the hook fouling up. It does not make a lure completely snag-proof, but it is designed to reduce how often the hook catches on structure compared to an exposed hook jighead.
What we have also found is that the DeepCover is fast becoming useful beyond just heavy cover fishing. Because of the way the jighead changes the fall and action of the lure, it can be used as an all-round soft plastic option when anglers want a more natural presentation.
For prawn soft plastics especially, the DeepCover gives the lure a clean, subtle action on the drop. That natural fall is one of the biggest reasons we designed it this way.
